Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II
For its construction at the end of the 19th century, a section of medieval walls and the San Gilio gate were demolished. In the center there is a monument dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele II (1890). Recently restored, it was inaugurated in its new structure in 2012, after 10 years of work.
Per la sua realizzazione alla fine del XIX secolo furono abbattuti un tratto di mura medievali e la porta di San Gilio. Al centro c'è un monumento dedicato a Vittorio Emanuele II (1890). Sottoposta recentemente a restauro, è stata inaugurata nel nuovo assetto nel 2012, dopo 10 anni di lavori.
Chiesa di Santa Maria del Carmine
It was built by Carmelite monks in 1324-1328 and enlarged in the 16th-17th centuries. The facade dates back to 1835. It once contained a polyptych by Masaccio (1426), which is now dismembered and whose tables are scattered in many foreign museums (Berlin, London, Los Angeles). One of the panels, precisely the one depicting Saint Paul, is still found in Pisa in the Museum of San Matteo. Opposite the entrance is the statue of Nicola Pisano, made in 1862 by Salvino Salvini.
Fu edificata da monaci Carmelitani nel 1324-1328 e ampliata nel XVI-XVII secolo. La facciata è del 1835. Un tempo conteneva un polittico di Masaccio (1426), che oggi risulta smembrato e le cui tavole si trovano disperse in molti musei esteri (Berlino, Londra, Los Angeles). Una di queste, precisamente quella raffigurante San Paolo, si trova ancora a Pisa nel Museo di San Matteo. Di fronte all'ingresso si trova la statua di Nicola Pisano, realizzata nel 1862 da Salvino Salvini.
